Help evolve the design for a NEW Steveston Community Centre
Consultation has concluded
The replacement of the Steveston Community Centre and Library is included on the priority list of major facility projects for the period of 2016-2026 as approved by Council in December 2016.
The process to develop a concept design is now underway and we want your input.
Concept design is an iterative process that includes the completion of a needs assessment and the development of a building program that will inform the location, size, site orientation and layout of a new facility.
Building on public and stakeholder feedback received earlier this year, the City of Richmond is now seeking public input for the current phase – program confirmation for the community centre and library.
The feedback gathered through the initial phase of the public engagement, which included: 15 stakeholder group interviews, focus groups with two elementary school classes, 22 ethnographic interviews, two open houses attended by over 300 members of the public and a survey that was completed by 376 respondents, has influenced the development of a draft building program that includes proposed room types and spaces to meet community needs.
There are two ways you can review project information and provide feedback on the draft building program:
- Drop in to the Town Hall on Saturday, April 21, 2018
- Noon - 3:00 p.m. at Steveston Community Centre (Multipurpose Room)
- Presentation by the project architect from 1:30 – 1:45 p.m.
Learn about the engagement results, ask questions and provide your feedback on how well the draft building program meets the identified community needs.
2. Complete the feedback form below by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, 2018
To assist you while completing the survey, click on the documents in the Document Library to the right to learn about the input that received from the public and stakeholders during the initial phase of the public engagement process, as well as a description of the room types and spaces that are proposed to make up the new community centre and library. Documents in the Document Library will open in a new window.
Please note: this project is for the replacement of the community centre and library only and will not impact other existing amenities located in Steveston Park such as the Steveston Outdoor Pool, the Steveston Martial Arts Centre, the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre and the Steveston Interurban Tram Building. Once the program for the community centre and library is confirmed, the preferred location and concept design for the facility will be completed.
Feedback gathered during this phase of the project will be used to further refine the draft building program in anticipation of a report being prepared for Council consideration.
