We are seeking public feedback on our approaches to Residential Rental Tenure Zoning
from May 21 to June 16, 2019
Here's your opportunity to provide input on potential approaches the City of Richmond could take to implement residential rental tenure zoning, a means of preserving the stock of existing market rental housing, in Richmond. The new rental tenure zoning power can also be used to increase the supply of rental housing in the City.
Over the coming weeks, the City will be offering opportunities for the public to learn about residential rental tenure and provide ideas on how City Council may implement it.
Here's how you can participate:

Attend the public open house on Thursday, June 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Richmond City Hall (Atrium, 6911 No. 3 Road) to speak to City representatives, review display boards and complete a printed version of the feedback form.
BACKGROUND Residential Rental Tenure Zoning is a new authority that was granted to local government by the Province of BC in May 2018. This new authority allows local governments to limit the form of tenure in multi‑family residential areas to rental. Through zoning bylaws, local governments may require that a certain number, portion or percentage of housing units in a building be rental only. The authority applies to any location where multi-family residential use is currently permitted.
NEXT STEPS Input from the public, as well as from other stakeholders, will be presented to Richmond City Council as they consider how residential rental tenure zoning may be used in Richmond.
