Richmond's Integrated Rainwater Resource Management Strategy

Would you like to play your part in protecting our City's storm infrastructure and ecological network? We are preparing the City's Integrated Rainwater Resource Management Strategy and would like your feedback.

Stormwater management helps protect our ecological network, reduces the need for costly drainage infrastructure upgrades by minimizing the impacts of growth and development on our infrastructure and has potential for reducing potable water use.

Our strategy identifies a toolkit for utilizing stormwater as a resource and reducing the impacts new development have on stormwater flows and water quality. The strategy identifies four primary goals to be addressed:

1. Minimize the impacts of future develop and redevelopment
2. Reduce potable water use
3. Address existing and future sedimentation issues
4. Support the City's Ecological Network

We have developed four strategies to help us achieve these goals:

1. Strategic detention of water
2. Water quality treatment and sediment control
3. Harvest and reuse rainwater
4. Protect, enhance and build green infrastructure
