Let's talk about e-scooters
The City of Richmond is seeking the community's feedback on what they think of electric kick scooters (e-scooters) in general as well as the City's pilot program.
The goal of this engagement is to learn about the community’s diverse values and needs when it comes to movement around the city and to help evaluate e-scooters as an alternative mode of travel.
Your input is valuable and will directly contribute to and shape City plans for future active transportation initiatives.
To participate, follow these steps:
STEP 1: Review e-scooter background section below for more information and the associated important links
STEP 2: Provide your feedback by taking a 10-minute survey on e-scooters running from Monday, June 12 to Sunday, July 23, 2023 (at 11:59 p.m.)
Background:
The City is currently half way through its participation in the Province of B.C.’s three-year Electric Kick Scooter Pilot Program. Since July 27, 2021, e-scooters have been permitted to operate in Richmond on some municipal streets and paved pathways, shared with pedestrians. The specific rules and regulations are defined within the City’s Traffic Bylaw No. 5870 and Public Parks and School Grounds Regulation Bylaw No. 8771.
In May 2022, the City awarded Lime Technology a contract to launch its app-based program, bringing both shared e-scooter and e-bike service to Richmond.
Through Lime Technologies and HUB Cycling, various training and beginner operator support has been offered to the public. As well, Richmond RCMP and Richmond Community Bylaw staff have undertaken education campaigns to promote the safe operation by riders of e‑scooters in Richmond.
Now that the infrastructure and regulations have been implemented for a year and a half, the City would like to know what the community thinks of e-scooters in Richmond.
