Updating the Cycling Network Plan

The City of Richmond’s Cycling Network Plan provides a vision for the city’s future cycling network, which will be expanded over time. Building on the input we received during Phase 1 and the results of our evaluation, we are again providing you an opportunity to play a part in this planning process from Monday, November 1 to Tuesday, November 30, 2021.

We continue to invest in cycling and have made significant strides towards achieving our shared vision for safe, fun and accessible cycling in Richmond - but we still have work to do.

We’re updating our Cycling Network Plan to guide and prioritize investment in new cycling facilities and safety improvements throughout Richmond. The project will ensure the vision for cycling throughout Richmond reflects the aspirations of residents and reaffirms the priorities for investment in new and upgraded facilities in the years ahead.

Objectives

  • Enable cycling as a viable, safe and sustainable transportation option
  • Improve access to key destinations and transit for cyclists of all ages and abilities
  • Enhance cycling network connectivity within Richmond and between adjacent cities
  • Consider current industry design standards and emerging micromobility trends
  • Gather and incorporate community and stakeholder input
  • Develop a prioritized implementation strategy

What this means for you

Your input will be used to help the City identify what the future cycling network will look like, guide the prioritization of future investments, and inform the action plan to achieve it.

Phase 2

At this stage, we want your input to validate findings from the route-level evaluation, refine feedback we heard during the Phase 1 engagement, and understand how you would prioritize different improvements and connections at the implementation stage.

There are three ways to provide your input:

  1. Complete a short survey
  2. Add your thoughts to an ideas board
  3. Use the mapping tool to identify where opportunities for improvements might exist
