What is a circular economy? The City of Richmond’s vision for circular economy is to maximize the value of resources, by design, through responsible consumption, minimizing waste and reimagining how resources flow in a sustainable, equitable, low-carbon economy.

The Strategy is guided by 6 directions and 84 actions that that will reimagine the flow if resources, materials, nutrients, products and energy. Richmond was the first Canadian city to apply 40% recycled asphalt pavement on a municipal road
Became the first Canadian municipality to integrate circular criteria into its Procurement Policy
Joined the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI) Peer to Peer Network, to further develop the Richmond Circular Strategy
Actively participated as zero waste stakeholders and in a Deconstruction Specialist working group
Participated in the Green Economy Canada’s Sustainable IT Procurement Pilot
2022
