What is Social Development?
Social development is about investing in people. It considers the present and future needs of the community by building on its strengths and bridging the gaps. It seeks to improve the social well-being of every individual so they can reach their full potential. It results in a more equitable and engaged community, where resources are distributed fairly and community members have a say in decisions that affect their lives.
Richmond Social Development Strategy
In 2013, City Council endorsed the 2013–2022 Social Development Strategy, which provided a roadmap for the City, community partners, residents and other stakeholders to improve the social well-being of those who live and work in Richmond. The strategy provided a vision, three goals, nine strategic directions and 53 recommended actions.
The updated Social Development Strategy will build on the progress made on the 2013–2022 Social Development Strategy and will continue to provide a framework for the City and its partners to address and support the current and emerging social needs of Richmond’s diverse population over the next 10 years. Your feedback will shape the development of new actions that will advance the social well-being of the community.
