  • Share One question and one comment. It is not clear in the Britiannia Shipyards report whether the $12 million dollars was for upgrading the existing seine net loft or for rebuilding the one that was dismembered to the west. The existing seine loft appears to be in quite good condition and is used daily. A comment on the Bowling Green community activity centre. I assume the name was changed to sound more inclusive because of the very large amount of money that is being spent on a new building that only has a membership of between 150 to 180 persons. $5.3 million is a huge amount of public money to be spent of so few club members and that of course is what I object to. on Facebook Share One question and one comment. Thank you for your question.

The $12,000,000 is for both the Shipyard Building and the Seine Net Loft. This money will go towards structural upgrades and envelope (roof and wall cladding) renewals for both buildings. The Phoenix Net Loft which was dismantled in 2021 will not be funded from the same budget.

  • Share Can we get an explanation of the process for the Steveston Community centre. They spent much time apparently pounding gravel into the soil. Then they dug it all out ten feet deep and now they seem to be digging into it further. It would be nice to have a little understanding of the work. on Facebook Share Can we get an explanation of the process for the Steveston Community centre. Thank you for your inquiry.

The project is concluding the ground preparation phase, which involved extensive groundwork to prepare for the construction of the building foundation. This included the installation of stone columns to densify the soil and create a stable base. A retaining wall was also constructed to facilitate the excavation of the underground parkade and foundation. The stone columns, placed deeper than the current excavation, were not removed during digging. Now that this phase is complete, our next steps will involve the construction of the concrete foundation, marking the beginning of the main building project.
